Day trip to Gran Canaria: Wine & more – a special experience away from mass tourism

This Day trip to Gran Canaria This is for guests who don't want a big bus tour, but also don't need a private guide – but would rather be in a small group are on the go.

We'll pick you up Tuesdays directly from your accommodation, between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., depending on the hotel. With maximum eight guests We travel in an air-conditioned minivan to places where buses cannot go.

First we will visit the old town of Agüimes: still, picturesque, with artisans and one Cigar manufacture (Cuban cigars). Here you have time to look around at your leisure, discover special pieces, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. The church can also be visited. Alternatively, you could enjoy a coffee in a small, quiet, typically Canarian café.

Then I will show you the East coast of Gran Canaria – with points that I won't reveal beforehand because hardly anyone knows them.

We continue through Telde – the second largest city on Gran Canaria – and then up to a traditional Guachinche in the mountains.

The Guachinche is a special one, typical Canarian mixture of agricultural operation, winery and rustic restaurant – all in one.

What's grown here also ends up in the restaurant. Much of the food goes directly from the field to the plate – it doesn't get much fresher or more authentic than that.
Usually only the restaurant is open to the public, but here you also receive a Guided tour of the plantation.

Something truly incredible is growing here. diversity – in this form unique. No monoculture, but everything side by side – and even that is just a small excerpt.
Figs, lychees, avocados, bananas, lemons, oranges, mangoes, papayas, coffee, pomegranates, almonds, moringa, pomelo, grapevines, potatoes, vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants – many of them organic.

And when the fruit is ripe, try out We go directly from the plant (depending on the season). That's much more exciting than walking past a single type of fruit.
Most of the plants grow outdoors, supplemented by a few greenhouses – deliberately as a diverse interplay in which the plants interact with each other.
Olives are also grown here and processed into their own olive oil, which is used in the restaurant and sold in the small farm shop on site.

The Guachinche restaurant is a place that locals on Gran Canaria know and love – and that hardly any tourists ever visit.
It's packed here on weekends: people feast, laugh, and celebrate – just as you would imagine Gran Canaria to be.

No bus stops there, and major tour operators don't go there. You can't find it with a rental car – and even if you did: you'll only get these kinds of insights into agriculture with us.

We deliberately chose to go on a quiet day so we could experience everything in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the special ambiance.

After visiting the plantation, we sit down in the guachinche.
There is a typical local lunch with tapas – almost everything from our own cultivation, regional and mostly organic. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available.

We'll also sample our own Canarian wine – not award-winning wines, but simple, honest country wines (red and white). Those who don't want wine can choose beer instead.

The focus is on enjoyment, relaxation and spending time together in a small group on Gran Canaria.

After dinner, we drive along a beautiful route to... Pico de Bandama viewpoint. The view extends over the vineyards, the east coast of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas and Telde – with a spectacular view directly into the volcanic crater.

When will we be back? That depends on the group. Fun and enjoyment can't be kept to a minimum. You'll be back at the hotel sometime between late afternoon and dinner – usually so full that you won't even need dinner.

So far, not only have all guests been thrilled – some have even done the tour multiple times. And genuine friendships have developed between some, lasting far beyond the holiday.
